My journey began when we opened the first nursery Happy Days (Quinton) in 1991. This exceeded all my expectations and inspired me to grow the company to provide quality childcare.
In 1996, my husband and I, (David Cotton) opened our first joint venture Cotton Tails (Northfield) bringing in the family name to the company. With the continued success we opened our third nursery in 2001 Cotton Tails Too (Rubery) and finally we have opened our latest acquisition; Cotton Tails at Hagley in 2016.
My vision as a business women and a mother of 4 has always been to provide the standard of childcare I have come to expect for my own children.
This offers a balance between a stimulating learning environment with a homely feel. Working closely with our families and the community to build partnerships.
Owner Cotton Tails Nurseries
Happy Days (Quinton)
Happy Days provides a safe, stimulating and exciting environment for all children within our four rooms, and the reassurance of qualified and knowledgeable staff for the parents who join us.
The nursery is well known within the local community building our outstanding reputation from the recommendations of the many families who have passed through our doors over the years.
We are a fully inclusive nursery having had experience in supporting many children with various special needs alongside other professionals so that this enables us to provide the consistent care the children need to fully thrive and flourish.
Cotton Tails (Northfield)
Cotton Tails, a lovely Victorian building is the largest of our settings due to our expansion in 2013. It is a bright, spacious and inviting environment for the children who attend.
In 2014 the nursery achieved ‘Outstanding’ for the second time.
We were delighted with this result giving us the recognition of all our hard work from our dedicated team.
We have given the children the opportunity to achieve their individual best throughout their journey at Cotton Tails.
Each calendar year at Cotton Tails is full of events for our families to become involved in such as workshops, parents evening, fetes, stay and plays, open evenings to name but a few. Examples of these can be found throughout the website.
Cotton Tails Too (Rubery)
Cotton Tails Too being the smallest nursery within the group offers a particularly warm and homely feel and this is often voiced to us from parents and visitors.
Our large outdoor area is an extension of the learning environment offering a wide range of experiences.
We feel we use our local community to enhance and widen the children’s knowledge by regular outings and trips.
One of our latest projects was to establish a link with our local primary school.
This has resulted in an ongoing relationship with the nursery teacher, who now advises in all of our settings. This is a unique partnership that has been recognised by governmental departments.
Cotton Tails (Hagley)
Cotton Tails at Hagley, the conversion of the local police station has benefited from the wealth of our experience in the childcare industry.
The building itself was extended and refurbished to an extremely high standard.
We have used the latest technology such as hi-tech entry systems, extensive CCTV which is linked to the office, under floor heating for the benefit of our babies and magnetic walls to add interest and challenges to the learning environment.
Our ongoing company link with fundraising for Birmingham Children’s Hospital has resulted in this nursery being the home for Dr Whoot, one of the owls that featured in the hospitals Big Hoot project during the summer of 2015.
Across the company we pride ourselves in putting safeguarding at the forefront of all the work we do with the children.
Our staff have regular training in this area, with the management team also attending the higher level courses as required.
All of our settings are extremely secure and we have an extensive admissions procedure.
Our own company policy is written in line with both local and national guidelines to ensure the safety of our children and staff.

From the moment a child enters the Cotton Tails Family we involve parents and carers in the child’s learning and development.
We offer an Open House Policy at all times to ensure there is ample opportunity to include all those who are involved in the child’s development.
The Open House policy also highlights the importance of regular communication, not only on a day to day basis but throughout the child’s time with us.
This strong ethos is clearly displayed by the regular feedback parents provide on their questionnaire sheets from our workshops, parent evenings, opening evenings, sports days and fetes, these are just a few examples.
